Heartworm season is rapidly approaching and we want to remind you to get your pet tested if they aren’t current and to give that monthly tablet. Which brings up another subject, remembering to give that pill….We will be recomommending Proheart6 for dogs which is an injectable heartworm preventative that lasts for 6 months. It treats both heartworms and some internal parasites such as hookworms. Your pet is given an injection under the skin, once every 6 months and YOU DON’T HAVE TO REMEMBER TO GIVE THE TABLET! We will still be offering the monthly tablet for pets that can’t have the injections due to medical concerns or if you like to give them a treat!

Heartworm disease (HWD) is a serious, potentially fatal illness, that is transmitted to animals through an infected mosquito. All 50 states have diagnosed HWD, and we are no exception, actually the Billings area is a hot spot in Montana, in part due to travelers and the river associated mosquito populations. A blood test is required before starting the preventatives, which can be done in the office in just a few minutes.
